Robin Hood Question

I've lived in Japan before, some years ago, but am planning to return within the year to teach English for awhile and I never thought about it, but I was just wondering if the Japanese generally know who Maid Marian is? In other words, are they more or less familiar with the story of Robin Hood or is it primarily a legend kept in the West? Halloween costumes, you know. Thanks.

Rin,
Almost everyone here in Japan nowadays (including non-Japanese who are not from the U.S.) has at least heard of Halloween and the costume tradition. Most people are more or less familiar with Robin Hood because of Kevin Costner. But I grew up in the U.S. and I don't know who Maid Marian is. Or I guess I've just forgotten about her.(him?) Why? Are you a big fan?

I would think that most Japanese would not be that familiar with tales of Sherwood forest.

My Wife Japanese wife has lived with me in the USA for 8 years plus 4 years of college and has a vague idea of Robin Hood and the lot thanks to TV but if I just ask her or her friends who Maid Marrian is she draws a blank.

I agree. Most people have heard the name Robin Hood, but few people have actually read the book (or more or less followed the story).

I may be an old timer but when I was a kid we used to watch "Gekko Kamen" & "Kaiketsu Harimao", the heroes for the people & justice more like Zorro. There are other recent ones as well but my time for these stories have passed.
