Japanese Culture Classes? 2010/6/4 13:36
Hi,

I will be going to Machida in the fall as an exchange student. I also have an internship in China right before from July to August. The fall semester in the school I will be attending starts in October, but since I will be in Asia already, they agreed to my arrival in August, though I won't be taking any classes until October. With that said, I've been thinking about what I wanted to do for the 2 months in between. I am very interested in Tea Ceremony, Ikebana, Calligraphy etc and was wondering if there were any inexpensive culture classes/lessons of that sort I could take during that time (August through September) in Tokyo, Machida or Yokohama.

English is preferred, but Japanese is fine too. I'll probably pick up on instructions by gestures and I'm also in Japanese III, so I probably wouldn't be too lost.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

For Yokohama, try asking YOKE.

I suppose they have something similar in Machida as well. Contact the city hall or the ward office most convenient for you. As for Tokyo, public offices are devided into 23 wards and other cities in the suburbs. The list below might be useful, too.
