A gift from Kyoto & Nara, what to ask? 2010/9/17 22:45
Hello there,

Because my penpal was asking me what kind of gift I would like from Kyotto and Nara, i was wondering what to ask.
I'd really love to get a fan like this http://www.japangarden.co.uk/images/D/MFWF2083.jpg but i dont know if they are very expensive or not and hard to get or not.

And what is a typical gift from those places?

Thnx.

When I visited Nara last year I found a tiny fan shop that sold beautiful handmade sensu and uchiwa fans. But unfortunately the rule was ''more detailed/sizeable, more expensive''. Golden, heavily patterned sensu folding fans were the most expensive.

Deers are the thing in Nara, so maybe you'd like to get something made from their antlers? Like keyring or something similiar?

Hope this helps even a little!

Chirimen 2010/9/19 10:04
Chirimen is a traditional fabric used in kimonos and now used to make coin purses, wallets, clutches, small animals figures, keyring dangles, etc. You can ask for one of them if you like colorful, yet useful objects. I bought several large coin purses at the gift shop located near the Daibutsu in Nara.

reasonable souvenir 2010/9/20 09:26
Hi! Visitor.

Not known whether the photo fan better or cheaper cost.
And can easily get the exact same thing and I do not believe.
But In Kyoto and Nara are available to provide for reasonable souvenir fans.
I think that you better be sure to tell the friend your favorite motif and budget.

Please refer to price.
