Hi. I read that Amaou is a very delicious type of strawberry in Fukuoka. I will be going this friday to fukuoka so any chance i can find some to try and where should i go to buy? Is strawberry available now although it is not in season?

The main season for Amaou is from December till April, but it is already available in November (though undoubtedly expensive).
You should be able to find them at the fruit shops and basement floor of department stores.

Yes. You can find Amaou strawberries even though at a small supermarket in Fukuoka.
So please try to ask a shop clerk where it is.

Amaou's best season is in April or Early May. If you can get it in its best season, it is really sweet!!

As you know, Amaou literally means Ama- Sweet, Ou-Large.

Miyama city where I work is also famous to grow Amaou.
It is really good!! Please try to have it, when you visit Fukuoka.
I think you also can find in other area of Kyushu.

Have a wonderful trip to Fukuoka!!

Miko.

The name of "amaou" consists of four kana letters taken from four words to describe this particular strawberry:

あ a: 甘い amai (sweet)
ま ma: 丸い marui (round)
お o: 大きい ookii (big)
う u: 旨い umai (tasty)
