Late night eats near Shinjuku

Are there any special places around shinjuku where they're open late and are popular trendy hangout areas?
Eg. A popular street food place, cafe or ramen shop

You got no replies likely because the choices of late night eating places in East Shinjuku is enormous! this is nightlife city as it's best...or worse if you don't like huge crowds.

I cannot speak for "trendy" but there are many 24 hour fast food places like Ramen, Gyudon, Soba, Udon and of course western fast food like Hamburgers that are 24 hours in Shinjuku.

or any that have been around for ages with some history to it?

I'd check out Omoide Yokocho (piss alley) which has a bunch of late night eats in a lively nightlife district kinda atmosphere. Or maybe head to Goldengai if you wanna check out the snack bar scene. Be aware though that Goldengai is not a cheap place to drink.

Piss Alley is along the tracks on the northwest side of the station, while Goldengai near the seedier Kabukicho district to the east of the station.
