Cost to eat/drink out in Japan?

My son is going to Japan in the spring and I'm trying to work out how much spending money he might need...

Does anyone know, roughly, how much would a relatively inexpensive lunch or meal cost in the Tokyo area. How much would a bowl of mixed noodles cost or a takeaway bento box? How much would a drink or a coffee cost?

You have lots of choices for under 1000 yen. Even some possibilities under 500 yen.

Typically around 500-1000 yen.

How much would a drink or a coffee cost?

Typically 120 yen per drink from vending machines.
