what to wear in matriculation ceremony? 2011/2/6 20:37
Hello! I'm attending a matriculation ceremony in Japan soon and I wonder what is proper attire for girls? I'm not fond of wearing "strict/standard" business attire (black skirt, long sleeves) because it makes me feel I'm old. I would prefer wearing skirt, sleeveless, and blazer. Would that be okay?

it's a formal ceremony and usually for the matriculation cerimony in the universities and in some senmongakkou it's required to wear formal clothes...and simple.
You wont look old, because there are many shops who sell suits for girls right for the entrance ceremony....you can get a look in some departement store...those clothes don't look old style at all!!!
but for the lenght of the skirt yuo have no choice...banned the miniskirt!!!

lastmockingbird,

Skirt and blazer sounds normal for a schoolgirl, but what months and region is this? Sleaveless would either be too cold or ruin your blazer with sweat from your arms. Short sleaves with a collar would be more suitable. If it's summer, you won't even need your blazer.

Actually, I plan not to wear anything black at all! I'd prolly wear a dress or the one I mentioned in the post.

I plan to wear something like this: http://images02.olx.com.ph/ui/9/72/11/1288442576_133227111_5-VERY-CHEA...

though I would pair it with a blazer.

And I will be attending one in Spring.

What do you think?

Thank you for the responses so far!

probably not appropriate 2011/2/8 11:49
I think you will be the only one dressed anything like that casually or colorfully. Also you realize that it can be very cold in Japan in April anywhere but Okinawa, even to the point of snowing? You would freeze to death.

Balloon skirts are for parties.

What exactly is the ceremony for? Depending on what it is the the outfit you posted might be entirely inappropriate for the ceremony.

If you wear what you've posted, you'll definitely feel out of place, and people may frown upon it.
This is the result of google search (images) by 大学 (university) & 入学式 (matriculation ceremony) as key words.

Almost everyone is wearing dark suits, look solemn. It's not a party.

My bad. I realized the link I posted is not really "like" the attire I plan to wear as I couldn't find a more proper picture.

Perhaps these are more like what I "really" plan to wear:

and http://i.ysi.bz/Assets/70/186/L_p1005018670.jpg

or even something like this http://www.chictopia.com/photo/show/118897-little+miss+planner-h-m-ski...

comments? violent reactions? lol.

Thank you for the warning!
