Bread rolls and dark rye bread 2011/6/11 18:19
Ifm going to Japan for 2 month again and after a few days I would like to have a variety instead to go on with eating limp white bread and rolls, filled with sweet beans for breakfast.

Where can I find a bakery in Sapporo, Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Kagoshima, where I can buy ewestern likef rolls and maybe dark rye bread?

Thank you

Some ideas for Fukuoka 2011/6/12 05:54
Hi,

since (slightly) darker bread seems to get more common, you might find some stuff in normal bakeries or good supermarkets. Then again, maybe you won't.

As for Fukuoka, there is a German bakery called "Sonnenblume" (http://www.sonnen.jp/), and a restaurant+bakery with the name "Bayern Fukuoka" (2-14-3 Imagawa, Chuo-ku). The first one is small but mostly authentic. I haven't been to the second one, but heard good things about it.
However, as with other large cities, it strongly depends on where exactly you'll be staying, since it's probably not worth it to travel through the whole city just to buy some bread.

Good luck,
Kai

Dark rye bread in Nagasaki 2011/6/12 08:20
The Harbin Russian restaurant in Nagasaki has the best Rye bread I've ever eaten. It's located on a side street off Hamano-machi the main shopping arcade. They also serve fantastic European food, I highly recommend it, 800 yen for a large loaf of rye to take out.

Backerei danken of Kagoshima 2011/6/12 09:58
I am not sure whether they sell real rye bread, however, I think Backerei danken is one of the best western style bakery in Kagoshima.

There are some photos.

You can find the location by searching
"Backerei danken Kagoshima"
using google map.

As you see, the bakery is very close (to JR Kagoshima station. Google map tells its 450 m, 5 min walk.

I also recommend Danken. Their bread is very good but hard to get there by public transportation. I recommend to buy your bread Online via Rakuten. You find lots of german style bread there and in the end it might cost even a little less as you don't have to pay the transport to go there and back.
