Spa World Osaka Etiquette

I have looked online for onsen etiquette, and read the forums, so I apologize if I missed something and this has already been answered...
I am going to Osaka and would like to go to Spa World for a day trip. I have read from other posts that the etiquette for onsens is to give yourself a good wash and rinse before getting into the water, which I understand entirely. What I don't understand is whether or not it is mandatory to wet and wash your hair. (Soap, water, the whole she-bang.) I would really rather not, and just tie it up, as I have high maintenance hair... Is this acceptable?
Thanks in advance!

No, you don't have to wash or wet your hair. Normally you don't put your head under water.

Just tying it up is fine. You are not supposed to let your hair hang down into the bath water.
