Good places in Tokyo and Osaka to try Unagi? 2012/3/13 13:01
I'm going to be traveling through Tokyo and Osaka, and am eager to try both styles of unagi. Unfortunately, I'm a budget traveler, and can't afford a splurge, but I've never tried unagi before, and would love to find somewhere that does it well for a reasonable price. Any recommendations in either city? Directions would be helpful! Thanks so much!

In Tokyo I like Matsukawa in Shibuya - it's very accessible and reasonably priced. Nodaiwa is famous, but their sake selection isn't very good.

There are plenty of other options too: http://www.bento.com/r-unagi.html

Nodaiwa in Tokyo is good for unagi. Alternatively, consider going for anago at Tamai in Nihonbashi. Very good prices, unique atmosphere, and close to Tokyo station.

Also, you don't find anago too much outside of Japan.
