Thanks for the info on the lights. Unfortunately - it looks as though it closes on the 15th of December but my Japanese is pretty weak. http://kobe-luminarie.jp/cont-01.htmTo the person who is visiting Kobe on Jan 1st - many sites are closed on this day. Some restaurants will be open in Chinatown - but some will probably also be closed. It could be worse - I'm in Yakushima on the 1st and all shops on the island are closed this day
