Thank you for the useful information! It helps a lot.
So, maybe I could do this sort of itinerary:
Day 1-8
Arrival in Sapporo from mainland Japan (sjghtseeing + hiking + cycling in Sapporo, Furano, Biei, Hokuryu Sunflower Village, Noboribetsu, Mt. Asahidake).
Day 9-12
Flight from Sapporo to Kushiro (sightseeing + walking-explore + rest in Akan Ainu Kotan, surrounding lakes or lake cruise, Marimo).
Day 13
Departure from Kushiro to mainland Japan.
Not sure if I'll include the islands up north. I don't even know my budget, sincr I can't make plans because of Covid-19 restrictions. But if I go one day, 13 days is a must, at least. If I have enough budget then, I'll go up north.

You're welcome, but if you are going around to Furano and Biei, etc, I have to question if it makes more sense for you going all the way back to Sapporo just to catch a flight to Kushiro.
