This site allows you to look up Japanese addresses in English. It then plots the location on a Japanese map, but with English labels. It may be useful. The site is: http://diddlefinger.comBest wishes

More info re: Hachiman-cho?

This is a very interesting thread. My family, the Purcells, lived in a very large house on (in?) Hachiman-cho in the late 50's. I'm pretty sure the house number was 56. Does this sound familiar to anyone? That puts us there at the same time as some of you who have posted here. I don't remember visiting any American families in the immediate area, but I would walk to the American housing area called Dragon Gulch to visit friends from the Ernest J. King American school. I had heard that the large house we lived in, with a beautiful hillside garden, became a BOQ for Navy officers. Any info appreciated!

Would love to see more information, about Sasebo and its environs, if it is available. Unzen, too, is a particular place of interest, but we traveled around Kyushu generally and it was a wonderful experience. The people were very special!

I dragged two photos into the answer field, but it does not look like they will form a link.

My best to all, recall the Rogers family USN Commander and his kids, etc, my dad was a CPO.
