X-X Modono Kanasa Machi Akita City, Akita Pref.
The address should be "Hodono Kanasa Machi," and the postal code is 010-0902.
Utsuno-Kyowa Machi Senbuku Gun, Akita Pref.
The whole series of areas in "Kyowa Machi" in "Senboku Gun" seem to have gone through some municipal mergers, and I cannot find "Utsuno," but if you use 019-2400, it will be OK.

Kyowa-machi was merged into Daisen City. I found a district called "Utsuno" in the former Kyowamachi. The current address would be: Kyowa Funaoka Aza Utsuno Daisen City, Akita Prefecture
The postal code for the above address is 019-2401

I am trying to write to relatives in Akita (I am half-Japanese and do not know the language) so your assistance with the old addresses was greatly appreciated. Thank you. One more address I have for a cousin in Toyama does not have enough numbers in the postal code. This address is: XXXX-XX Kureha-machi Toyama 930-01. Shouldn't the postal code have 7 digits? Thank you for your help.

The 7-digit postal code for Kureha-machi, Toyama-shi, Toyama prefecture, is 930-0138.
Initially, the postal codes used to be either 3 digits or 5 digits, then were expanded to 7 digits, so that each set of numbers came to indicate a smaller, more specific district. So if you were given the number some years back, there could have been only the 5 digits. And also, some people do not remember their relatively new 7 digits number (I always forget the last two digits of my parents' home!) :)

There is no one postal code for the entire city of Osaka. You will need to be more specific.

Dave, That address is a real mess, so I would strongly recommend rechecking with the person involved before you attempt to send anything. From what I can see, it could be as follows, but it's not at all clear where all the other parts fit in. (addressee's house/apartment) Higashi-Rinkan Sagamihara-shi Kanagawa-ken 228-0811 http://www.yu-bin.net/pc/post.cgi/14/0/2280811/737/index.html

Dave, My wild guess is that the address could be: X-XX-X Sounan, Sagamihara-shi, with the apartment building name of Amuzu Higashi-rinkan, 202 being the room number. In this case, the postal code would be: 228-0812
I also suggest that you check with the person, or, if you cannot, just please write out the address as you've got it, just add "Kanagawa-ken" (Kanagawa Prefecture) to it, so that the post office can sort it out.
