Home - April 1/2, 2002 We discovered a very large Shidare-zakura (Weeping Cherry) today. The tree is with about 10 meters by far the tallest Shidare-zakura that I have seen in Vancouver so far. It is located at the corner of 13th Avenue and Fir Street in front of a residential building. The flowering season of Vancouver's numerous plum trees is currently peaking. Two great areas to view the flowering plum trees are the Kitsilano/Arbutus area between Arbutus Street, MacDonald Street, Broadway and King Edward Avenue, especially West 22nd Avenue, and the Oakridge/South Vancouver area around Ontario Street and 44th to 54th Avenue.

Fairview - 13th Avenue and Fir Street 1 April 2002 This is the largest Shidare-zakura in Vancouver that I am aware of. It is now in bloom.

Arbutus - 22nd Avenue between Arbutus and MacDonald Street 1 April 2002 West 22nd Avenue is one of the most beautiful plum streets of Vancouver. Mostly Atropurpurea (very light pink blossoms) and a few Nigra Plum (darker pink blossoms) trees decorate the street for about seven consecutive blocks. The trees are now in full bloom.

If you see single petals lying under the tree, it is usually the result of them falling down "naturally".
