I visited the Japan Society in NYC today and was saddened to learn of the passing last month of Donald Keene, one of the great American (and, more recently, Japanese) scholars of Japanese literature. He is the last of the wave of wonderful post WWII Americans who transmitted so much cultural information about Japan to the English speaking world. Should I win the jun yusho today, I dedicate it to his memory. Good luck, Kazutoyama!
