December 10, 2013 - Stone and paper

Stone for unchangeable wisdom of ages, paper for floating easiness of tonight... Temple and drinkery... No matter how opposite, both are represented by lanterns. Both shine a light, divine or earthly, it shows a way.
Now, through with a bit of homemade philosophy, letfs move to Nara, a Mecca of stone lantern fans:

Yes, we're still in Nara:

Kyoto:

Find all and win a prize:

These are neither of paper nor of stone, but I just cannot think of where else to post this pic:

Paper lanterns too have their share of temple grounds, like the giant one at Kaminari-mon in Asakusa. This tiny shrine next door to Gion is not a bit as gorgeous, but to me looks much more nice and homely:

And here is Gion, all lit by lanterns:

This photo is an obvious failure, but for some strange reason I love it:

Bet you'll never guess where it is:

The same location:

The funny thing about stone lanterns is that they sneak into fotos even when you don't mean to take them at all:

Narai (Kiso valley):

Takayama:

Yokohama:

Tokyo:

The ultimate yakitoriya lantern (Yurakucho):

Don't remember where this one is from:
