January 16, 2013 - A small slice of Japan, so very far from Japan

Japanese Garden in Leverkusen

The following pictures were taken on a very overcast day on a visit to the Japanese Garden in the German city of Leverkusen.

The Garden was built in 1913 and extended in 1926, after the owner -who was a very wealthy industrialist- went on a world tour and was smitten with the garden culture of the Japanese. It is located inside a big park and has been open to the public (for free) since the 1950s.

It features one teahouse, several statues, ponds with koi, torii and several bridges, one of which is an homage to -I think- the Shinkyo bridge in Nikko.

It has been voted into the top 5 gardens in Germany.
