November 12, 2013 - Tour to Mount Fuji and beyond

Tuesday was the only day I was not travelling alone, but with a group. I booked a tour via Internet to the Mount Fuji and its region.

The day started early at Shinjuku, where we met our tour guides and the bus took of to Mount Fuji. The Fifth Station was our first goal. On the bus rice, we even learnt to sing the Fuji Song! As it was winter, there was snow on top of the mountain and it got really cold when we got of the bus after our ride of about 90 minutes. But cold temperatures are nothing new to me, so I got used to that pretty quick. The weather was great, in its own way! It changed from cloudy to sunny to foggy to windy to cloudy and back again within minutes! Sometime, you got a great view, and the next minute, it was all grey again. But according to our tour guide, weather like this is pretty standard during fall and winter in the Fuji region.

After we had our stop on the fifth station, our tour continued to the town of Oshinam famous for its "eight ponds", an area with some really beautiful lakes and nature surrounding them. The ponds get their water directly from Mount Fuji, so there is a connection between these ponds and the holy mountain. Of course you have a great view to the Fujisan from there.

After that, our tour went on to Lake Kawaguchi. The weather was brilliant there, we enjoyed a sunny lunch break, with a classic Japanese style Tempura menu. After some nice photographs, our tour went on.

Next stop were the Shiraito water falls, Once again, the scenery was beautiful, with some nice water falls coming over the cliffs. At the end of the day, we visited a shrine before our bus set back to Tokyo, where it got stuck in a huge traffic jam. I went directly back to my hotel for my last night in Tokyo before heading to Osaka.
