Interconnection Yaeyama island

My family and I will conclude a three week vacation in Japan with six days on one of the Yaeyama islands. In trying to decide which island we should stay on it would help to know if one always has to travel through Ishikagi island to reach Iriomote, Kohama etc. or if there are direct connections between all islands?
