Kamikochi out of season 2013/3/23 02:56
I wonder if it is possible to visit any thing of Kamikochi in the closed period. During early April.
Is there any trekking posible in that area?

Thanks.

Yes, it is possible, but not convenient or easy. You will need to take a taxi to the the entrance of the long tunnel to Kamikochi, then walk through it. Once you emerge from the tunnel, you'll have to walk an hour or two to reach the Kappabashi area.

Keep in mind that Kamikochi will still be covered in a lot of snow in early April. Climbing the mountains here during that time is a serious endeavor for which you need the appropriate skill, equipment and confidence. Additionally, the huts will be closed, and there are areas that are prone to avalanches.

If you really want to go to Kamikochi in spring, I would recommend going during Golden Week. There will be public transportation that actually goes to the Kappabashi area, as well as open mountain huts and plenty of trekkers. However, even then you would need proper winter equipment and skill. People who are not sure of their ability will hire a professional guide, which is a smart choice.
