Omagari Fireworks Competition from Tokyo 2013/4/1 06:45
Hi there! I'm looking for help to see the Omagari National Fireworks Competition from Tokyo. The website ( http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2267.html ) says it's easier to go with a tour group since the Shinkansen doesn't have a return trip after the show and hotels are likely booked so... How do I find a tour group? I asked my travel agent and she tried contacting some tour agencies in Asia but they didn't have anything for that event.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that article is really too vague to be of much help, and is about 2012, not 2013.

There is an annual fireworks festival in Yokohama each year in (early?) August. That is easy to get to and from, by train or subway. One source says it is multiple nights, while another says just one night. Google something like "Fireworks Yokohama 2013."

"Yokohama International Fireworks Festival - the night skies over Yokohama Port and Yamashita Park are lit up for several nights with a stunning fireworks display to celebrate summer."

and

"Wednesday, August 1, 2012, Starts 19:15 〜 20:30 -- At Minato Mirai Area - front of Rinko Park (*admission charged*) -- About 10,000 fireworks -- The day will be very crowded, Arrive early to find good place. --
Port Side Park 5 min walk from Yokohama Sta east gate recommended."

There are also some fireworks display in Tokyo in August (again, use Google), and Tokyo Disney has nightly fireworks, but I am sure you are looking for more than that.

Here is information from last year:

I have visited over 10 times.

Omagari is the king of Fireworks fes in the world.
But town Omagari(now a part of Daisen city) small area living under 150,000 people.
however Fireworks day(one night only) coming over 700,000 travelers by trains, cars(bus) from all Japan who about 50% trabelers coming yesterday or more before days
for escape bad traffic-jam and free area postion getting line in the day morning(gate open).
So impossible hotel booking near town/cities.

on the other way Shinkan-sen train or [night]bus tour(no hotels) a lot.
but not ecpensive tours sold out very fast.(if livin in japan/also as Japanese)

if really want to get tour booking must entering japan earlier recommend.
maybe one or two month before.

18:50〜21:30 night time part

most tour package until sponsor part end.

if I were u rent a car from beforeday and arr midnight then wait/sleep whole day in car.
but if fine day hot over 30℃ very hard travel.
