Fuji hakone pass - buy now, use later?

I want to purchase Fuji Hakone pass from Shinjuku station on April 10, to be used effective from April 12 to April 14. Is that possible? Or once I purchase on April 12, it will have to be activated on the same day?
I am planning to go from Tokyo to Kyoto first and then going back from Odawara to start using my Fuji Hakone pass (going to Hakone and Kawaguchi).
It should still make sense to do both 7 day JR pass and Fuji Hakone from Odawara right?

Yes, the Fuji-Hakone pass can be purchased in advance but any reason why you'd rather not purchase it later?
Yes, the 7-day JR pass would break even.
