Osaka Unlimited Pass equivalent in Tokyo 2014/7/25 18:27
On our last trip to Osaka, we were fortunate that our volunteer guide brought us to the trainmaster station and we bought an Osaka Unlimited Pass for 2 days worth \2,700 only which includes subways and attractions.
Is there a same type of tourist ticket/pass option for Tokyo?

Always check out the travel sections here before posting a question. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.
Here's your fish:

Give a man anonymity, and he can behave like a real jerk...

There is nothing exactly like the Osaka Unlimited Pass (which have been renamed Osaka Amazing Pass, by the way) for Tokyo. There are some day passes for transit, but nothing that gives you free admission to a bunch of different types of attractions.

The Grutt museum pass bundle that comes with two subway day passes is probably the closest thing. It isn't nearly as well promoted as the Osaka Unlimited Pass, and it's often hard to find up-to-date information on it in English.
But it's an excellent product if you like art. The venues are not limited to museums, actually.

If you Google "Grutt Pass Tokyo" you can probably get an idea of whether the Grutt pass is worth getting for you. The list of places that are 100% free includes at least one zoo and at least one aquarium. But mostly it's museums of various kinds (art, science, history). There are also places that have discounted admission but it's usually only a small discount on those.

The bundle with subway tickets included costs 800 yen more if I recall correctly. It could have changed since the consumption tax increase earlier this year. It includes two one-day passes good on the Metro subway lines only (not Toei). I've used this bundle before and found it to be excellent value. Unfortunately, it's really hard to find information on it in English. You can buy it at Metro subway stations but you have to go to a special ticket office where they sell commuter passes.

There are a lot of transit-only day passes (scroll down to near the bottom of the page suggested by Mr. Fisher), but you have to do a lot of homework to understand the Tokyo transit system in order to make them pay off. They are routinely trashed on this forum as being not worth buying, but that is an oversimplification. You can sometimes save a few hundred yen or so if you ride one particular transit line a fair amount in a day. But for many people (probably most), they don't pay off.

Actually, it turns out that there is now easy to find information on the Metro combination with the Grutt Pass, here:

I don't know why this package isn't more popular. Maybe people don't like to go to a lot of museums on their vacations. You do have to go to three or four of the more expensive venues to get it to pay off, and it doesn't cover some of the flashier museums like the Mori Art Center. But if you the venues on the "free" list appeal to you and you have two or three days (or more) for this type of sightseeing it's very good value.
