Getting food in the town of Hirayu Onsen 2014/8/30 06:06
Dear fellow travelers,

We are considering staying for a few nights in a ryokan in the town of Hirayu Onsen. We will definitely want to enjoy the full ryokan experience (with breakfast and dinner) in at least one of our nights there, but since it's so expensive we prefer to book the remaining nights without any meals (this is significantly cheaper).

We only have one concern regarding our plan: we hear that Hirayu Onsen isn't much of a town at all, but I can't find much information in English. How likely are we to actually find dinner there outside of our ryokan? Is there at least some selection of restaurants (including fast food places) that are likely to stay open late enough for dinner? Is there a supermarket or at least a convenience store? Is there anything there besides the ryokans?

Thank you for your help!

A google at wiki comes up with:
平湯温泉内にコンビニはありますか? Any Convenience store in Hirayu onsen?

ありません。
最寄のコンビニは車で約30分ほどかかります。
また、ATM等もございませんのでご注意を。
None.
Nearest Convenience store is 30minutes by car.
No ATM nearby.

For restaurant, here is a list, in Japanese:
