Greeting for the first time 2014/9/18 12:07
Hi guys, a quick question here! I'll be going to Japan soon and will be living in a place with what's mostly like, a bunch of people who are a few years younger than me. Now, let's say that I met a person for the first time and he/she is certainly younger than me. If I were to talk to that person, would I be using polite modifiers (like "desu" and whatnot) or would I be talking in casual form?

Or should I be talking in polite form regardless of age, if we're both strangers?

Thanks!

Hello!(^-^)/
Yes, in general, people talk in polite form at first.
