Suggest 5d driving itinerary in Hokkaido

Who: 5 adults and 2 kids under 4 from Australia, first time in Hokkaido but been to other parts of Japan previously. Experienced and confident drivers.
When: June 2015
Q: after few days of touring in Sapporo we are looking for a 5 day driving itinerary around Hokkaido. Places of particular interest are Asahikawa zoo and Noribetsu Onsen. Because they are two directions how can I plan the itinerary so that as much as possible can be covered in 5 days. Will end the driving trip in Chitose airport to return the car. Thanks in advance.

Indeed going for Noboribetsu and Asahikawa from Sapporo/New Chitose will inevitably involve some driving back and forth. A suggested route with minimal backtracking would be: Sapporo/Otaru - Shakotan Peninsula - Niseko - Toya-ko - Muroran/Chikyu Misaki - Noboribetsu - Kuttara-ko - Shikotsu-ko - Poroto Kotan - Tomakomai - Furano - Biei - Asahikawa - Sapporo/New Chitose. The question is whether all can be covered in a short 5-day road trip.
By June I hope you are going during the latter part of the month for better bloom of lavender (July is best).
