Can I teach english and sell records?

I currently have a 'specialist in humanities' visa and I teach in an Eikaiwa. I also just got signed to a Japanese record label and I have a master's degree in music. Just trying to work out if it's legal to earn money from both? With the MA do I stand any chance of qualifying for that super 5 year visa that allows you to work in different fields, or is that only for millionaires !??!! Any advice? I have to renew my visa pretty soon and I was just wondering if I can apply for one that makes it okay for me to teach and sell albums, do commissions, etc!
Thanks for your time!

I don't know what kind of "super" visa you are talking about?

I guess you're thinking of the Highly Skilled Professional Visa?
It's aimed at scientific researchers, and highly paid /skilled managers. Things like a high salary (6M yen +), PhD, publications, or lots of experience as a senior manager would be necessary. So, basically I think you have no chance.

Wow, that sounds ideal. It's a legitimate company that's supporting my music. However I guess it could be disastrous if it failed! Is there a chance of failure for this permission thing? There's no way I qualify for the skilled visa thing, so maybe this is my only choice?

There is of course always a possibility that the permission will not be granted, the only way to know is to apply.

If I fail do you think I could re-apply? Was considering trying on my own merit first, and then asking my record label to apply on my behalf if I failed. Or is it possible the label asking for me would add more legitimacy to my case?

It shouldn't matter whether it's you or the company who applies, since the details of the application will be the same anyway (type of job, number of hours, income, etc.).

And as for re-applying if permission is denied, it would only make sense if the two applications are significantly different; submitting the same application twice will not yield diferent results.

Thanks so much for your information! I just have one last question. Will this permission expire as soon as my visa runs out? I need to renew my visa in September. Would I have to re-apply for permission after I get the new visa ? Thanks again, you've been so helpful already, cheers!
