Hi,

Could you please share the name of JR stations where we need to board the shinkansen? I will be based of of Chuo area. What would be the cheapest and most convenient way to reach there?

Area is Nihonbashi,Chuo.Ootemachi station is closeby as per the host.

Thank you.

Shinkansen can be boarded in three separate stations in Tokyo: Tokyo, Ueno and Shinagawa.

For the Tokaido Shinkansen (to west locations:Kyoto/Osaka and beyond) you must board at Tokyo or Shinagawa

For all other Shinkansen (Tohoku, Hokuriku, Yamagata, Akita, Joetsu), you must board at Tokyo or Ueno. Some (very few) trains do not stop at Ueno, so Tokyo is the safe option for ALL shinkansen.

In the greater region you also have options at Omiya and Shin-Yokohama - but it depends on the train.

Tokyo station is the terminal for all of the shinkansens that go to/from Tokyo.

Either walk or take a taxi to Tokyo station, depending on how far it is and the amount of luggage you're carrying. It's hard to guess where you are based on your description - Otemachi station is very spread out, as is Nihonbashi. Perhaps you can plug your address into Google Maps and see how to get to the east end of Tokyo station using their directions.

If you go into Ootemachi station, walk to the Tozai line area, then there is a passageway into Tokyo station. Cost? Free.

Well, since there's major construction work going on inside Otemachi station, there might be more stair-climbing than one would want to engage in while carrying luggage.

To Umami dearest.
What are they doing at Otemachi? I am deeply interested in Tokyo subways, having written Tokyo subways (pub. by Hoikusha, 1992).
