We will be staying in Hiroshima & have a day to visit Tonomi and Miyajima. What would be the best routing?
Can we see both places the same day? We'll have the JR Rail Pass.

What's Tonomi? There is a Tonomi station in Hofu city, Yamaguchi prefecture, but that's probably not what you are referring to, and I don't find anything else by that name...
