Late Dec/Early Jan Itinerary

I'm looking to go to Japan between 26th Dec and 8th January, and kinda have a rough Itinerary in mind but not very sure of it. I've been to Japan multiple times before but never to the Tohoku and Hokkaido Regions.
First off, is it gonna be very tough to get tickets for the Countdown Concert in Tokyo? I have a friend in Japan who may be able to help me purchase them there. But I'm not sure how feasible it is.
Would there be snow around Takayama/Shirakawa-go during the late December period? I've been there before in Autumn, but if it's snowing I would like to go back there again.
What would be good recommendations of places to visit in Tohoku? I've noticed the Zao Snow Monsters but not sure what else is nice to see there. Not sure if Yamadera or Dewa Sanzen is feasible in Winter.
Also is Ginzan Onsen or Zao Onsen better to visit?
