Still possible to visit Tsujiki this October? 2016/8/25 17:18
Hi,

I'm going on a trip to Japan this october (around thge 16th-17th) and was wondering if it's still possible to visit the Tsujiki Fish Market as it set to close in November. On their website it seems that it was only open until march of this year but maybe I did misunderstand it,

Thanks for the wonderful website, helps a lot in organizing my trip,

Best,

Yes, people are still visiting and checking the Tuna auctions. Starting november, however, we all go to the grey zone.

To make the matter even gray-er is now there is a proposal to delay the relocation to Toyosu until the new year (2017). The mayor of Tokyo is expected to decide on that issue soon.

Yes. Also, as it may have already been answered, the Outer Market will remain open even after the "tuna" and Inner Market moves next year (or in 2017...).

A word of advice if you decide to venture into the inner market: Watch out for the fast moving human and ESPECIALLY powered carts wheeling about in all directions! Please keep a sharp lookout every second you're in there, as these guys are trying to get their seafood back and forth fast and we're basically in their way!

Yesterday's news is that the move of the inner market is going to be delayed - the new Tokyo Governor apparently has the ability (and desire) to make a decision in January on a possible moving date.

Yes, the new Tokyo Governor has reportedly decided to delay the move of the Metropolitan run market until after another environmental review is scheduled to be completed in January (this was part of her election platform btw). February is being floated as the new move date. The delay is apparently also in part to concerns of moving right before the New Year season, which is the busiest time for the market.
