hokuriku arch pass or JR pass? 2016/9/5 13:20
Konnichi wa!
I'm going to Japan in February, will visit Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.
My destinations are:
-cherry blossom in izu kawazu
-ski in gala yuzawa
-mt fuji
-overnight in shirakawa go
- kyoto (kiyomizudera, arashiyama, etc)
- nara park
- osaka castle
I saw that the Hokuriku Arch Pass covers Tokyo-Osaka-Kyoto. For above destinations, would it be possible to buy the HAP or is it recommended to go for JR pass?
Cheers

The Hokuriku Arch Pass is certainly an option. It is cheaper than the full JR Pass, and if you want to go to Shirakawago, there is some sense in picking it. Be aware though that there is no rail access to Shirakawago, so you'd need to pay for the bus there and back from Kanazawa. Speaking of which, Kanazawa is also a city that is well worth some of your attention.

On the downside, it does take a couple of hours longer going between Tokyo and Kyoto, and on your way back you'd have to go the way you came - there is no riding the Tokaido line which is a lot straighter and time saving.
