Nakasendo Trail - public transport access

Hi, we are planning on going to Tokyo and Osaka in March. We wanted to see part of the Nakasendo Trail in between them (we would probably stay at a ryokan somewhere along the way for 2 - 3 nights and leave our luggage there and walk some of the trail from there and back each day). Can anyone recommend a part of the trail that would be nice to see, and that would be easily accessible by public transport from Tokyo / Osaka?
