Kyushu Itinerary - 10 days 2016/11/22 03:07
Hi, would need some advice for my itinerary below:

Day 1 : Hakata to Beppu. Visit 8 hells of Beppu and Hyotan onsen. Stay for the night.

Day 2 : Day trip to Harmony Land. Stay for the night at Beppu.

Day 3 : Beppu to Yufuin. Enjoy the walking street and lake kinrinko. Stay for the night.

Day 4 : Day trip to Kokonoe Yume Otsurihashi. Stay for the night at Yufuin.

Day 5 : Yufuin to Kurokawa onsen. Stay for the night.

Day 6 : Kurokawa to Hakata.

Day 7 : Day trip to Dazaifuten.

Day 8 : Shopping at Tenjin

Day 9 : Marinoa City / Canal City

Is above looks ok and any place I should visit which I did not include?

Basis above, do I buy Northern Kyushu Rail pass for the first 3 days and Sun Q Pass for the 4th to 6th days? Seems I don't save by using the rail pass.

Would appreciate some advice as this is my first time in Kyushu. Thanks.

I dont normally like suggesting buses. But since your itinerary is short distances and a few are bus-only options. I'd investigate the SunQ bus pass.

You could add some very worthwhile places to your plans if you wish.
Day 1: In addition to the Hells Tour (which you can do in 2-3 hours), there is the nearby Takasakiyama Monkey Park & Aquarium, which is one of the better ones in the country.

There is also going up the ropeway to Mt. Tsurumi if you wish.

Days 7/8 - Pretty open and could do more. Seeing the Tenmangu shrine takes only 20-30 minutes. There's the Komyozenji Temple next door, and if you like museums, the Kyushu National Museum is there as well. But for something more interesting, you could take the 30 minute train ride south to Yanagawa for its canal boats and garden. Also in Kurume is the Naritasan Jibo Kannon Great Buddha, which is nearly unknown to most.

For Day 8 you could spend the whole day shopping, but you have more of that planned and you'd miss one of the best sights in the whole area - the Nanzoin Temple, just 20 minutes by train from Hakata Stn. A lot of other temples might turn into a blur, but not this place.

For Day 9 - Frankly if you're doing shopping at Canal City, you can pretty much skip Marinoa and better use that time for some Fukuoka sights. Ohori Park is one good place for a stroll, and next to it is Maizuru Park with the castle ruins. There are many nice gardens as well at Ohori Park, as well as Yusentei and Rakusuien. Nokonoshima is an island in Hakata Bay and has a very nice garden and hiking.
