Art, The Ninkin amount is calculated based upon the number of months of premiums you have paid. The vesting is still 25 years, but there has been discussion on reducing that to 10 years. For more details, go toc http://www.nenkin.go.jp/international/english/nationalpension/national...In general, financial planners suggest that you should plan to save enough to use 75% of your pre-retirement income, after you retire. This can come from a combination of a state pension, personal savings, income from investments, and post-retirement work. You also need to consider your life expectancy and expected inflation to ensure that you have saved and invested enough for your retirement years.
