Can you wear a haori with a show kimono?

I've heard that to wear a haori casually it has to be the center piece. Would I be able to wear it with a show kimono? Or would that be innapropriate?

What is a "show kimono"? Haori is basically a coat, by the way. You don't have to wear a coat on stage, if that's what you mean. You don't happen to be talking about a happi, are you?
