Yes, Shimonoseki and Kyoto are both located along the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen.
Where to buy the tickets and how long will it take to reach Shimonoseki?
You can buy tickets at any JR station. The one way trip takes about 3 hours and costs around 14,500 yen.
