Hi, I'm thinking of a daytrip from Kyoto to Amanohashidate in April. Does the Kansai Thru Pass cover for the train ride? I understand that the one-way journey costs about 4380yen. Does anyone know of any pass (other than JR pass) that can help to reduce the transportation cost?

No, Amanohashidate is far outside of the area covered by the pass.

You could travel by local trains and pay only 2200 yen one way, but you the travel time would increase by 50 to 100 percent, depending on connections.

Alternatively, there is a bus that takes about three hours and costs 2700 yen one way, but it is infrequent and not suitable for a daytrip:
