Best way from Shinjuku to Gala Yuzawa

I will be in Tokyo for 3 days with my 13 year old daughter. She would like to go snowboarding and I am thinking of going to Gala Yuzawa.

I see there is a shinkansen from the Tokyo station, but is there a way to get there from Shinjuku without going thru the Tokyo station?

Where would I find the times and how long would the trip take?
