mt fuji 2010/5/7 10:11
I know this questions had been asked many times but Ifm still unsure where to go for a good view of mt fuji, which I do not plan to climb.

I have 2 days for the trip, traveling from Tokyo. kawaguchiko or hakone? Or both?
Is the fuji hakone pass worth it if I only have 2 days for this area. Ifve read that hakone is overcrowded, too commercial?
or get 2 days hakone fuji pass?

Is the fuji hakone pass worth it if I only have 2 days for this area.

Yes. But you have to travel Tokyo - Hakone-Fujigoko - Tokyo or the other way around. For example, you cannot travel Tokyo - Hakone - Fujigoko - Hakone - Tokyo

Ifve read that hakone is overcrowded, too commercial?

Overcrowded it can be on weekends and during holidays. On other days, it is not usually crowded. To the opposite, it can be pretty deserted during regular weekdays. And yes, it is pretty commercial, as is Fujigoko. If you don't like commercialism, you might want to drop these places from your itinerary.

personal exp - week ago 2010/5/7 20:58
I would recommend both FUji-go-ko (Kawaguchi ko) as well as Hakone - I was lucky enough to see the beauty (Fuji) in 2 succesive days from both places week ago (Hakone was even on Saturday I guess & even though there were plenty of people, it still def. was worth seeing - I mean Hakone itself and Fujisan therefrom).

If one of those places, I would choose Hakone, though Kawaguchi is much much nearer to the mountain so would depend more on what you choose.

regarding commercionalism - well, yes, both places are popular but the popularity rises from the fact both places are very nice I think (and your target - Fuji - is the cream on the cake :-))

Kawaguchiko 2010/5/7 21:02
Sorry, I have to disagree that Kawaguchiko is too commercial, we don't even have a movie theatre here. Well, there is the big amusement park, but if you get a little ways out of town from Kawaguchiko station, it is all country, and great views of Mt Fuji from hiking spots and the ropeway (Kachi Kachi), and everywhere in-between (on a clear day).

Well, regarding my post, I mentioned LpopularL, which kawaguchi ko is - that is for sure ... as among locals so for tourists.

But in the end - FUjigirl is correct, there is plenty of nature outside the town center - I saw Fujisan from across the lake (last stop of the oldie bus), from kachi-kachi too - there were no clouds at all the whole afternoon and it was a marvelous day, really. I was speachless when the clouds left the town and mountain before midday & the mountain was left LavailableLfrom a small park next to the lake. we even didnLt travel to Sai-ko just to have quite time to watch the buty Fujisan provides ... do not miss it - it is the name of the game no matter that much wherefrom.

Do not know how about others but I regard the view on Fujisan as the top of our 22 days stay ... (... and there is awful lot more Japan offers!)

tks a lot for all your feedback.
I really wanna visit both of them as there's 2 different views of mt fuji.

my plan will be :
dau 1 - tokyo to kawaguchiko
overnight - kawguchiko

day 2 - travel to hakone, visit hakone and back to tokyo
overnight - tokyo.

or is it better to do it the other way round?

I have to get the fuji hakone pass right? is there any other fees that i have to pay apart from the pass, accommodation?
I'm trying to work out the cost now.

pls kindly suggest how do i go abt visiting sights in this 2 days.

many tks!
