Nara to Koyasan

Is there transportation from nara to koyasan or do i need to go to osaka? I read the info on koyasan but the transporation details only info from osaka to Gokurakubashi.

Generally it makes sense to travel via Osaka, but if you already have a JR Pass you can save some money by taking a more direct route.
