Trip around Hakone 2011/1/31 11:53
Hi there, I want to ask for a best way traveling from Tokyo to Fuji Q highland and a short visit to Lake Ashi and Hakone area. Any recommendation?BTW, if possible I prefer to use my Japan Railpass ticket. Is it available?

Combining Hakone and Fuji Q Highland into a single day is not a good idea. Too much time is spent on board of trains and buses.

Access to Fuji Q Highland is explained here:

Transportation between Fuji Q Highland and Hakone is explained here:

Like said above, It's probably too much to do in one day. To really enjoy Hakone you need at least 1 full day, but 2 days is preferred.

The same goes for FujiQ it will cost you 1 day to just do the main attractions as the queue's are really long. When you do go to FujiQ it might be nice to go to the Onsen next to the park afterwards. I know I was really tired after a day of FujiQ.

This is the location of the Onsen:

Thanks for your advice. actually I was not going to stay there one day.So let me ask you this way, I gonna stay in Tokyo and go to Fuji Q Highland one day and go back to Tokyo and the other day head to Hakone area and Ashi lake etc. I am wondering is it better to stay one night there instead of going back to Tokyo?though carrying the luggage and checking out and in is something I dont prefer, honestly!Or do you think I can make it with 2 separate days?

It saves you time and probably money not to return to Tokyo. But as you note yourself, two separate side trips also have some advantages, e.g. luggage.

I think both options are valid, but it's up to what you prefer. Staying there will save you time and maybe even money next to that it's also a nice area to stay.

Doing Hakone in 1 day, traveling from Tokyo, does mean that you have to keep track of time so you don't miss the last bus back to the station. If you stay there for a night, you probably can start earlier and have a more relaxed trip. Either way it has it's pro's and con's and it's up to you eventually.
