Tokyo to Narita/Haneda & going to Niseko 2011/3/14 17:10
Hi,
We should have left yesterday for Japan and have been able to postpone our departure till Thursday. We're still not sure if it's safe to go (radiation and possible dispersion by the winds?) through Tokyo.
Are the buses/trains running more or less normally from Narita to Tokyo and to Haneda?

It seems that since the tsunami warnings have been cancelled there are no more threats for the Hokkaido area, is this correct (not much is said about areas other than Sendai, Fukushima and Tokyo on the various news channels)? We're booked for a few days skiing in Niseko, Could there be any risk of the nuclear radiation spreading there?

Thanks for sharing your view on the situation in Tokyo and Hokkaido...

No considerably amounts of dangerous radiation has left the reactors so far.

Bus and train service to/from Narita are not running normally today and probably for a few more days to come. Service is reduced and slower than usual and there are times when the operation is completely stopped. That is all due to the power shortage. So, there is a high risk to experience some delays.

More major tremors are possible, but the danger for Hokkaido is rather low.

Could there be any risk of the nuclear radiation spreading there?

In the worst-case scenario maybe. But most experts think that the worst is averted. No considerable radiation has escaped so far.
