When will be good time to visitand view snow wall at Japan Alps , will mid May,2012 be too late?

Won't be too late. You can see it until June. Here is a brouchure (sorry in Japanese) but you can see that the snow wall tour is planned to extend from April 17 through June 10. It says that the maximum height of the snow wall can exceed 20 meters and even in June when the "Snow valley walk" event ends, the wall will still be more than 10 meters high.
So far this year we are having record amount of snow all over Japan so you will not have to worry.
