JLPT kanji 2012/2/14 11:19
I understand that there are no firm lists of kanji per new N levels, but approximately what would be expected? I'm estimating as below and wonder if I'm close.

N5 120
N4 300
N3 650
Total from N5-N3: 970

Also, from the info I've seen, it seems that from N3 to N2 the kanji required is only about 150-200. Is that about right? If so, why such a huge quantity at N3 and so few at N2?

From what I have seen N2 is about 1000 kanji and N1 is 2000. So, the jump from N3 to N2 is about 350 more. Plus you need to know a lot of vocabulary as well.
