Atami or Ito beach? Which one is better?

Hi,
I will be in Japan within a month and will be in Tokyo for several days.
I would like to go to Izu and now wondering which beach should I go.
I can travel to Aatami or to Ito and I now that each city has a beach. Maybe more than one beach. I only know Atami Sun Beach and Ito Orange Beach.
Which one is a better choice?
What is the difference between the two?

Both Atami and Ito are not really known for their beach, Both have the volcanic black sand which does not look that nice. I've been to Ito many times and can highly reccommend the town as an Onsen resort. There is also plenty to do there if your willing to catch a bus. It's also not as over commercialized as Atami. If you want a nice beach - go further down the peninsula to Shimoda (Shirahama Beach)
