Day trip from Nagano

Hi all,
Is there anywhere near Nagano where I can go for a day trip?
Since I am not utilizing my JR EAST pass for this particular day, so preferably it will be somewhere near Nagano by train not more than 1000yen for 1 way.
Me and my husband prefers photography and scenic places more than shopping.
I will already be going to Yudanaka, Matsumoto and Hakuba on the rest of my trip.
I've read up abit on Ueda and Obuse. Am looking for more other options before fixing my itinerary.
