Shall I buy any JR Pass

Hi,

Would like to check with you guys, should I buy any JR pass if my itinerary is as below:

Day 1: Osaka
Day 2: Osaka - Kanazawa
Day 3: Kanazawa
Day 4: Kanazawa - Shirakawago - Takayama
Day 5: Takayama
Day 6: Takayama - Kyoto
Day 7: Kyoto - Nara
Day 8: Nara - Kyoto
Day 9: Kyoto
Day 10: Kyoto
Day 11: Kyoto - Osaka
Day 12: Osaka

No, the Japan Rail Pass is much more expensive than regular tickets for your itinerary.

What exact dates are the above?

Note that you must take the bus from Kanazawa to Shirakawago to Takayama anyway and it is not covered by the JR Pass.

There are many options coming from Takayama back to Kyoto, there is usually one direct Hida Wide View Limited Express Train per day at around 3:36pm which is slower but more convenient (and slightly cheaper) than transferring to the Shinkansen at Nagoya. There are some buses from Takayama to Kyoto if you wish to save some money.

I did roughly calculate and it is about 50% cheaper than a JR pass. But not sure about my calculation is correct or not.
