Chojukan ryokan 2013/1/23 22:21
Hi,
would like to know if they accept single travellers, and how much they charge for their rooms?

also is there any way to reserve in advance?

THanks!

If so the page says it takes single guests and you can make the reservation through that site...enjoy!

I was there just last week and it was great. They charge from 14000 yen per person and accept single travellers (without having to pay for 2). Note that the famous indoor bath is usually mixed gender, although it has a 2 hour women's only period from 20:00-22:00.

Its easiest to book via their website. The Japanese reservation page is better than the English one. You might be able to call them too, but I don't think they have any English speaking staff.

How about their outdoor baths? Are they very scenic? I'm looking for a traditional ryokan which has rather scenic outdoor bath.

On a side note, how about osenkaku, rather do they accept single travellers?

They have one outdoor bath (usually women's only but switches to men from 20:00 to 7:00) that is beautiful, especially at night. However it doesn't have much of a view of anything but the sky.

I'm looking for a traditional ryokan which has rather scenic outdoor bath.

Then Hoshi Onsen Chojukan probably isn't what you are looking for. Osenkaku would probably be more what you're after.

On a side note, how about osenkaku, rather do they accept single travellers?

Yes, they have single plans starting at 14000 yen.

Re: Chojukan ryokan 2013/1/25 01:07
yllwsmrf - thanks for the info on ryokans that accept single visitors - I have that issue as I travel solo to Japan as well.

A really dumb question - I am assuming in mixed gender baths one goes in unclothed....don't think I'm brave enough for that...lol...

Generally most mixed gender baths allow (or sometimes require) women to wrap themselves in bath towels. That how most women bathe at Takaragawa Onsen (Osenkaku). I'm not sure what Chojukan's policy is, but the room itself is usually pretty dark and steamy if that helps. Incidentally, the men only get to use a small hand towel, so they tend to have a high risk of exposure while the women are pretty covered up.

Thank you so much for clarifying that, yllwsmrf. Now maybe I would feel more relaxed to try an onsen sometime.... :)

Just another question, does Osenkaku provide shuttle service From Minakami station to the ryokan?
